Abstract

Surgical treatment of primary hyperparathyroidism is higly effective method. There is the tendency to localize patological parathyroid gland before the operation.

We can divide preoperative localization techniques in non-invasive, invasive and by the operation. We have presented the experiences of non-invasive method especially ultrasound and technecium 99m sestamibis scans.

Other methods, that are in article discuss are CT, MR, angiography, venous sample of iPTH, fine-needle aspiration and the methods used by the operation for example intraoperative parathyroid hormone assay, radioquided operation and intraoperative biopsy. There are discuss benefits and disadvantages of these methods.

We collected the results of group 104 patients with diagnosis primary hyperparathyroidism who had parathyroid exploration in the year 2004.
