Publication

Abstract

This article is focusing on the strategy of an ordinary man (priest) during Communist repression in Czechoslovakia (1945–1989). Microhistorical view on the personality Stanislav Krátký can demonstrate one of the possible strategies that were used by this phenomenal priest, prisoner, worker and bishop of the “hidden” church.

His aproach is one of many that were used by members of the Catholic Church. However, his case is unique because he passes on a canon of all possible roles that life under the communism can offer to a priest.

The variety of strategies begins with passive resistance and continues to an open movement against the regime.
