Abstract

In greenhouse experiments, we have monitored the energy content in 14 genotypes of maize. Juvenile maize plants were cultivated in two versions of the experiment – a control version and a stressed version.

The control plants were irrigated with 70 % of the field water capacity. For the stressed version, irrigation was completely discontinued for sixteen days.

The lowest level of net energy by root was in the genotype (704x23)x23 (12.34 kJ.g-1) and energy content by shoot was in the genotype (704x23)x(704x23) – 12.34 kJ.g-1. The highest net energy content of root was identified in plants (23x704)x23 (13.61 kJ.g-1) and shoot by genotype 23 (14.32 kJ.g-1).
