The occurrence of introduced species of the genus Cercyon (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae) in the Neotropical region

Abstract

The occurrence of the species of the genus Cercyon Leach introduced to the Neotropical Region is reviewed. Two species are recorded for the first time from the Neotropics: Cercyon (Paracercyon) laminatus from Chile and C. haemorrhoidalis from Argentina.

Cercyon panamensis Hansen is synonymized with C. nigriceps. Cercyon depressus subsp. uruguayanus Knisch is synonymized with C. depressus and its lectotype is designed.

Additional records of C. nigriceps, C. depressus, C. quisquilius, C. praetextatus from Netorpical region are mentioned. A list of Cercyon species introduced to the Neotropical Region is provided, C. obsoletus and C. limbatus are removed from the Neotropical fauna.
