Metabolic diversification of cells located in distinct regions of developing yeast colony: Role of ammonia signalling

Publication

Abstract

Central cells are less active in accomplishing of metabolic changes and they keep higher levels of stress-defence enzymes. On the other hand, cells located at the colony margin exporting higher amounts of ammonium than central cells, activate an adaptive metabolism.

These divergent properties predestine central cells to undergo apoptotic dying and outer cells to keep their clones living.
