Snow cover monitoring and snow storage assessment in Šumava and Krušné Mts.

Abstract

The paper produces partial outcomes from a snow cover assessment in a number of experimental catchments in Šumava and Krušné Mts. For the runoff analyses and for the modelling and eventual prediction of runoff from snow cover the information about the volume of water retained in a snow right before the snow melting process is absolutely crucial.

In doing so, data about the real snow cover character in czech headstream areas are very partial and imprecise. Snow melting in consequence of increased air temperature often succeeded by a rainfall represents the most common source of a flood formation in the Czech Republic.
