Climate change impact on mountain lakes of Kyrgyzstan with regard to the risk of their rupture

Abstract

The paper deals with the actual problem of a climate change impact on water resources and with the assessment of its consequences to present natural hazards and risks in high mountain areas. Different types of mountain lakes in Tien-Shan (Kyrgyzstan) are assessed with regard to the risk of their rupture.

Within the hazard analyses, evolution of glaciers and lakes was reconstructed using historical reports, aerial photographs and satellite images.
