Abstract

The article is focused on development of entrance to the tertiary education in the Czech Republic. The demographic development in the future resulting from the rapid changes after the year 1989 is analysed together with its possible consequences for the tertiary education.

The entrance is evaluated according to the Trow`s systems of tertiary education. Net entry rate is used for the analysis of the entrance to the tertiary education.

It is illustrated that the Czech tertiary system passed through the runaway growth after the year 1989. This growth gradated after the year 1999 because of new Higher Education Act.

According to Trow there is no possibility of maintaince of the system which belongs to elite tertiary education for the development of the mass tertiary education. The same is valid for the transformation between mass and universal tertiary education.
