Gstaad - Saanenland. An exaple of social-economic micro-region

Publication at Faculty of Science |
2009

Abstract

The article uses the example of the Alpine region Gstaad - Saanenland to outline the emergence, formation and maintenance of regional tendencies in the area. The area's character is determined by physical geography at first, and then shaped by the current conditions of globalization and Europeanisation that greatly influence its regional identity and image.

Author is using the example of interconnection between local services, agricultural products and craft activities in tourist and local populations. As a result, several "label regions" emerged that are the major representatives of regional identity.
