What to change in work of teachers assistants?

Abstract

With growing importance of inclusive model of education the number of teachers assistants is also increasing, but their competences still remain unclear. Article presents results of research project focused on work of teachers assistants and requested changes in their work from different points of view: Interviewed assistants, teachers and pupils agree on the need of larger time extension of assistants jobs - more time should be devoted to common preparation with teachers, communication with families or accompaniment of pupils to educational activities organized in out-of-school environment.

Some teachers also lack clearer definition of cooperation with assistants, teachers assistants would also prefer higher (financial as well as social) appreciation of their profession, clear definition of their competences and more intensive methodical guidance.
