The treasures of Map collection

Abstract

The exhibition introduces 50 exhibits from the cartographic collection of the Faculty of Science of Charles University in Prague. It includes works significant for the oldest historic cartography in Europe, for example Roman, Arabic and all sorts of medieval maps.

Cartographic bohemica take a special position in the exhibition. Focus of the exhibition is in the Dutch masters of the golden age of cartography at the turn of the 16th and 17th century.

Also their most famous atlases are presented. The heights of the exhibition are recently discovered word unique objects: de Wit's map of Europe, Camocio's plan of the battle of Malta and Gijsbertson's portolan map of Europe.

Presented are also video projections of rare digitized globes of 17th - 18th century.
