Abstract
This article intends to prove that Czechia has already passed the tipping point from prevailing emigration to a prevailing of immigration and is on the way to a “mature” immigration country. Since 1989 Czechia has been transformed first to a transit and subsequently to an immigration country with the fourth-largest positive net migration in the EU-27.
This transition went hand in hand with profound political, socio-economic and demographic changes. As the most important migration driver, the economic development in Czechia can be identified: GDP growth, low unemployment, demand for labour force as well as the importance of an informal sector.
We assume that Czechia fits into the take-off stage of the transition concept.
