The Non-breeding Goose Census was re-established in 2006 following monitoring activities developed in 1989 – 1994. The programme is based on the monthly census of wintering and migrating Geese.

In the winter season 2006/07, the census was carried out on 14 of the most important sites Numbers of Greylag Goose (Anser anser) decreased from September to December. The most important sites for wintering for this species are in South Moravia and in South Bohemia.

Greylag geese arrived back on their wintering ground in January.
