Abstract
Species adsorbed on ordered or disordered surfaces can be characterized by many ever-improving experimental techniques and at the same time they can be modeled by a variety of combinations of modles and methods. This theme issue is focused on the overlap between experimental and theoretical approches for adsorbed species characterization and on the new insight that can be obtained from such concerted effort.
