Abstract
Maternity centre is a social space especially for mothers coming there with their children. Maternity centre rely mainly on mothers' voluntary work and is based on non-professional rather than professional principle.
Satisfaction from mothers' voluntary work for others is not the only benefit of their voluntary work. By their engagement in running the maternity centre they could raise their self-confidence and keep their professional orientation.
This paper reflects changes that arose and may arise during more than twenty year existence of maternity centers in the Czech republic. The main attention is being paid especially to the mission of the organization and the position of the main participants of maternity centre - mothers.
