The Part Played by Ocular Movements in the Diagnosis of Specific Developmental Dyslexias

Abstract

This problem has been in the focus of attention for more than 100 years. The authors discussthe classification of ocular movements into saccades and pauses - fixations, as well as thecharacteristic of the saccadic system from the physiological aspect and the problems of impairedocular movements and findings in dyslexia.

They discuss oculomotor disorders, oculomotordyspraxia, fixation nystagmus, impaired fixation etc. In some of the dyslectic subjects theoculomotor abnormality plays an important part and therefore the authors stress the importanceof oculomotor examination in children with specific developmental dyslexia.
