Abstract

It is only after the decease of Prague Old Testament scholar Jan Heller early this year that the whole of his scholarly, human and Christian contribution can be evaluated and appreciated. Heller, a pupil of Slavomil C.

Daněk and himself teacher of three generations of Czech theologians, was primarily interested in the ?kerygmatic intention? of biblical texts. To acquire this, Heller proceeds in four stages.

First he encounters the text as a philological object. Secondly he examines its cultural, religious and historical context.

Thirdly the content of the text has to be encountered, often signalized and determined by its proponents? names. Finally the message of it with regards to the community has to be formulated.
