The wine and the inebriation: the Gypsy contribution to the lexicon of Romance languages

Abstract

The paper deals with words of Romani origin from the semantic field of drinking, consumation of alcohol, first of all wine. These words penetrated into the argot of many European languages.

We focus on Spanish and Romanian but mention also examples from other languages. We analyze the origin and meaning of these words and mention examples of their use.
