The Chicano Caló belongs to one of the sociolinguistic variants of the language of the Spanish speaking population of Mexican origin living in the US. It is a colloquial style with numerous slang and argot forms.
Its major function was - at least in the history - the one of a secret language and the in- group identification. Its functions are well seen first of all in the field of the lexicon which is extremely rich in loanwords, mainly of English origin, but also of other foreign languages.
In phonology and morphology, there are no peculiar features which cannot be found in other Spanish variants spoken around the world. The Chicano Caló seems to remain, if we do not take in consideration some vocabularies till now published, without a major attention from the part of the linguists, even if it is, without any doubt, a highly interesting language code from the sociolinguistic point of view and also grammatically and lexically.
