The prognosis of treatment of severe acute diverticular disease complications depends on the site, extent and duration of sepsis, on chronic and acute patient's condition and on the type of surgery. All above mentioned factors should be considered by decision about the tactics of surgery.

The aim of the study was to evaluate if pre- and peroperative scoring could be usefull by decision making about surgery and if the surgery would be the same with or without scoring. 30 patients operated on for peritonitis of diverticular origin were enroled. Patients datas, their general condition, extent of peritonitis, type of surgery and results were evaluated and consequently correlated with MPI and Hinchey's score and APACHE II score.

Despite good correlation of results the authors consider scoring superior for prognosis statement than for emergent use.
