Abstract

In the submitted review the authors characterize the differences of psychotic and non-psychotic depression. They give a brief account of the effectiveness of tricyclic antidepressants and classical neuroleptics in the treatment of psychotic depression.

The main part of the paper is devoted to a review on the use of amoxapine, selective inhibitors of the serotonin reuptake and atypical neuroleptics in acute treatment of depressive disorders with psychotic symptoms. Despite methodological limitations of the mentioned studies the authors conclude that these preparations aregaining their place in the treatment of psychotic depression.
