Abstract

The authors present an account on a successful surgical extirpation of an extensive malignant intrapericardial teratoma in an 11-month-old boy. After surgery and completed chemotherapy the child has been now for 12 months in good health without signs of active oncological disease.

The malignant intrapericardial teratoma was one of four teratomas from a group of 20 operated cardiac tumours in children at the cardiosurgical department °i the Cardiocentre in the Prague-Motol hospital in 1977 -1997. A total of 40 heart tumours were diagnosed and of those 20 were not operated.
