Determination of bromine and iodine in the rat thyroid by short-term INAA

Publication |
2000

Abstract

A mode of non-destructive simultaneous determination of Br and I concentrations, using the method of reactor INAA in the regime of short-term activation, in the rat thyroid and in the speciation of fractions separated from this organ, is described. The analytical response to the contents of Br and I is the induced radioactivity of the nuclides Br-80 and I-128 measured by the high resolution gamma-ray spectrometry.

Under the conditions of 1 min activation by the neutron flux 8 x 10(17) m(-2).s(-1), the contents of 0.1 mu g Br and from 0.4 to 10 mu g I were determined in samples of the thyroid gland of 5 mg (dw).
