Antidepressants During Pregnancy - The Use in the Treatment of Depressive Disorders

Abstract

Main risks of using antidepressants during pregnancy and factors influencing the selection of antidepressants are summarized. Existing studies show no increased teratogenic risk of antidepressants used during the first trimester.

When administered during third trimester, these drugs may impair neonatal adaptation and cause withdrawal symptoms in a few cases. The author presents guideline for pharmacological treatment of depressive disorder during pregnancy.
