Costs for diabetic foot syndrome in international comparison

Publication at Third Faculty of Medicine |
2002

Abstract

Diabetic foot syndrome is a very important social and economic problem for the whole society. There are several economic studies used in medicine (cost of illness, cost utility, cost benefit, cost effectiveness) and two types of costs (direct medical and non-medical and indirect).

The international consensus exists for cost effectiveness studies, unfortunatelly no intenationally accepted standards for analysing costs of illness are still available. It causes that the results of cost of illness studies can not be compared.

We perform some results of economical analyse of the diabetic foot syndrome from several europian countries as well as from USA. These results can help realize the real costs and enable farther discussion on this topic.
