Antimutagenic Effect of Ellagic Acid and Resveratrol and theirs Effect on the Immune Response in Mice

Publication at Third Faculty of Medicine |
2002

Abstract

Ellagic acid and resveratrol demonstrably inhibit the mutagenic activity of three reference mutagens: aminomethylimidazo-quinoline (IQ), aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), and N-nitroso-N-methylurea (MNU) in the mammalian model (micronucleus test) in the bone marrow of laboratory mice. Also in the prokaryotic model (Ames test) a strong inhibition of the mutagenic activity of IQ and AFB1 by ellagic acid and resveratrol has been demonstrated.

Mutagenicity of the direct mutagen MNU was reduced by both substances in the Ames test to a very small degree only. In testing of the chemiluminescence activity of murine granulocytes, ellagic acid repaired strong immunosuppressive effect of all the mutagens applied.
