Internal structure of the 17-item Philadelphia Geriatric Center Morale Scale was tested in the Czech context using data from 524 women living in community, aged from 65 to 75 years. Using an exploratory factor analysis and a structural equation modeling three first-order factors (agitation, loneliness, attitude toward one's aging) were identified.
The findings closely correspond to the three factors obtain in the U.S. and Japan's cultural context. As the ecological validity of the results is restricted to senior women characterized by active approach to social reality the results may serve as a frame of reference while assessing life satisfaction of senior women with problems in adjustment to aging.
