New topical immunosupressants in atopic eczema therapy

Publication at Third Faculty of Medicine |
2004

Abstract

Topical immunomodulators became an alternative to topical corticosteroids which are linked to significant side effects, particularly in atopic eczema patients due to the long term treatment schedules. Two drugs are available at the pharmaceutical market offering both water in oil and oil in water emulsuions.

Pimecrolimus may be reimbursed in infants, children and teenagers, tacrolimus in adults.
