Chronic pelvic pain

Abstract

Chronic pelvic pain constitute a complicated problem due to the determination of their pathophysiological causes, which was not too succesful. The complaints are most often marked as "intersticial cystitis" (IC) or "chronic prostatitis" (CP).

These terms reflect clinical interpretation of symptoms described by the patients. The inflammation is intuitively marked as the main cause since the symptoms imply that.

Nowadays we can see, that the theories solving chronic pelvic pain do not work anymore and that it is necessary to re-evaluate them and at the same time to adjust the terminology. Contemporary definitions correspond with the latest recommendations for the terminology, determined by International Continence Society (ICS) [1] and using the axial structure of the classification of International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) [2].

The article elaborates the pathogenesis, diagnosis and the possibilities of treatment of chronic prostatitis.
