Polyangiitis microscopica in 14-year-old girl with type 1 diabetes mellitus and chronic autoimmune thyroiditis

Abstract

A case report of 14 years old girl with newly manifested type 1 diabetes mellitus a Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Microscopic hematuria and significant proteinuria were identified and mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis was proven in renal biopsy.

Boluses of methylprednisolone at the dose of 500 - 750 mg/m2 after 4 weeks and oral therapy with cyclosporine A (3 mg/kg/day) provides clinical and laboratory remission of renal disease. Nevertheless the prognosis of combined of autoimmune disorders remains uncertain
