Changes of flow parameters in cervical carotids in patients with stenosis of the internal carotid bulb

Publication at Third Faculty of Medicine |
2005

Abstract

The carotid bulb stenosis as one of the most frequent locations of atherosclerotic narrowing causes in our measurements in the range of 0-50% an acceleration of systolic velocity 8 cm/s. Beyond 50% of the stenosis this acceleration makes already 50cm/s per each 10% of the growing stenosis.

In patients with additional contralateral stenosis of the internal carotid the acceleration are steeper. With the growing stenosis the systolic and diastolic velocity in comon carotid artery decreeses.

The presence of persons with a retrograde ophthalmic artery blood flow increases with higher degrees of the internal carotid stenosis.
