Abstract
The article reviews history of the study of pain, and legislative dealing with distress and suffering of animals. Then, the pain definition in animals is treated.
Pain pathway and pain modulation are described. The second part of the article is dedicated to clinical assessment of pain condition in ruminants, and lists out the most common pain states.
