Abstract

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation is a new promising therapeutic method in the treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders. The main drawback to this technique so far had been the impossibility of precisely targeting of the rTMS coil at the given cortical area.

The stereotactic neuronavigation is a unique technology enabling to target the coil with a high degree of anatomic accuracy based on the evaluation of the structural or functional neuroimaging of the brain. To achieve the optimal level of focus of the magnetic coil it is necessary to process individual neuroanatomic parameters gained using structural (MR) or function displaying methods (PET, SPECT, qEEG).

Based on the data from these examinations, the neuronavigation system will enable us to directly point and focus the rTMS coil over a pre-defined or dysfunctional cortical region, with a high (millimeter) degree of precision. Compared with the other methods of targeting the rTMS coil, the neuronavigation takes into account specifically the subject
