The prognosis of patients with malignant melanoma is significantly dependent on tumor thickness and this is a reason why the early diagnostics is essential for the favourable disease outcome. Accuracy of the melanoma clinical diagnostics has been enhanced by introduction of dermoscopy, particularly by its digital form, which is able to improve the accuracy of the clinical decision for more than 25 % in a trained dermatologist.
The malignant melanoma mortality rate has been remaining constant since eighties of the 20th century, therefore, research into new substances which should be able to prolong the patiens's survival in metastatic stage is in progress
