Intrathecal baclofen administration in treatment of severe spasticity

Abstract

In our article we are summarized modern trends in treatment of severe spasticity that worsened quality of life, mobility and self-care of these disabled patients. The most common treatment of spasticity is combination of physical treatment and oral drug therapy.

The most commonly used are benzodiazepines, tizanidin, baclofen. A local administration of botulinum toxin is suitable for focal spasticity in a small muscle group.

In severe flexed spasticity, surgical ablation procedures may be performed. In severe generalized spasticity a long-term treatment by intrathecal continuous baclofen administration could resolve this problem
