Abstract

In most patients many controlled trials proofed, positive effect of continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion on metabolic control of type 1 diabetes mellitus compared with multiple insulin injections. Hypoglycemiais are markedly less frequent in CSII than during intensive injection therapy.

A possibility of fine basal rate changes helps to minimize a morning blood glucose increase (the "dawn phenomenon"). New materials help to decrease a rate of infectious complications and new techologies made insulin pump almost flawless.

Sofisticated software can help to calculate insulin bolus doses. Integrated continuous subcutaneous glucose monitoring in certain types of pumps head CSII towards closed loop system.
