Toxocariasis and visceral larva migrans

Abstract

Toxocariasis is one of the most prevalent zoonosis in the Czech Republic. This article has two parts: in the first the basic biological, clinical and epizootic comparison of toxocariasis in dogs, cats and humans is bring up.

This part is followed by listing of the most important mechanisms of host immune system attenuation. In the second part the case report of 62 years old patient, dogs breeder, with human form of toxocariasis - visceral larva migrans is described.

Visceral larva migrans was localized to left fronto-temporo-parietal region. In spite of this patiens underwent neurosurgical intervention and intensive pharnacological treatment (antibiotics, antiepileptics, antihelmintics) he died several months after the first neurological symptoms of the disease have occered
