Regional Brain Metabolism (18FDG PET) in patient with acoustic hallucinations and drug dependency in history

Publication |
2007

Abstract

Patient with long-lasting history of drug dependency (opiares and merampheramine) was investigated by the use of positron eniis sion tomography ( PET) due to the persistent acoustic hallucinations and paranoid delusions. The psychotic symproms have persisted over 2 years ofthe full abstinence.

Increased metabolism ( uprake) was found in temporo-parietal corteX bilaterally in comparison wirh the controls (SPM). The current knowledge about bram metabolic changes in residual toxic psychoses is limited.

The symmetric increase of metabolism within the temporo-parietal corteX would reflect the finding nosologically specific finding in the hallucinations of toxic origin.
