Malignant melanoma

Abstract

Cutaneous melanoma originates from neoplastic proliferation of melanocytes. Due to its early lymphogenic and haematogenic metastazing, melanoma belongs to the most malignant tumors.

The patient's prognosis is significantly dependent on tumor thickness and this is a reason why the early diagnostics is essential for the favourable disease outcome. The malignant melanoma mortality rate has been remaining constant since eighties of the 20th century, therefore, research into new substances which should be able to prolong the patiens's survival in metastatic stage is in progress
