Abstract

Hyperbilirubinemia, regardless of age, is defined as an increase in blood bilirubin concentrations above 25 µM. Clinically, hyperbilirubinaemia is manifested by icterus (yellow sclera, skin and mucous membranes).

In neonates, the icterus manifests clinically at bilirubin 6885 at mol / l. Icterus neonati (physiological jaundice, physiological hyperbilirubinaemia) occurs in 45-65% of healthy newborns.

However, icterus may be a symptom of a serious newborn disease (pathological hyperbilirubinaemia)
