Solving ODS by modified STARR method - Final results

Publication at Third Faculty of Medicine |
2007

Abstract

The authors evaluate the benefit of a combined surgical procedure of posterior colporrhaphy and STARR resection for solving obstructive defecation. The examination algorithm included classification of subjective problems by means of ODS score, sonography and anal sphincter manometry and defecography examination.

The surgical procedure was always preceded by minimum one month of rehabilitation with modification of dietary regime. The medium term results (average follow-up period of 1.9 years) are fully comparable to other methods.

The postoperative morbidity was 21%. Failure of the method was observed in 2 cases.
