Thrombophilia and hormonal contraception

Abstract

Thrombophilia are a heterogeneous group of congenital and acquired conditions. They are an independent risk factor for development of TEN.

The prevalence of this disease in a healthy population is very low. The use of combined hormonal contraceptives (containing estrogen) is burdened by increasing the relative risk of thromboembolic complications.

The real risk is that the penetration of more thrombophilic conditions, whether congenital or acquired. Identification of these clinical situations is an important task of the doctor during consulting activities in family planning and selecting a suitable contraceptive method.

If you prefer hormonal contraception and women in identifying prothrombotic state, or a combination thereof, may be effective and safe alternative in the form of pure progestogenic contraception indicated that the risk is not loaded.
