British health care is one of the most advanced health care systems in Europe in the field of patient safety. Author summarizes experience from his visit in National Patient Safety Agency, about current state, its history and future and suggests possible transfer of British know-how to local environment in Czech Republic.
NPSA now undergoes a major change related to complete reformation of the agency which should result in much faster response on patient safety incident report, broader involvement of health care workers into the reporting process, and leveraging the compliance to issued recommendations in daily work. National Reporting and Learning System (NRLS) is key tool in NPSA work.
NRLS collects incident reports from individual trusts on national level and provides statistics and benchmarks back to the reporters. Stored records are used for research in the process of preparing the safety recommendations for daily work.
