Abstract

Endometriosis is defined by the presence of endometrial flanda and stroma outside the uterine cavity. Endometriosis is a relatively common disease affecting usually women of reproductive age.

In the United States and Canada endometriosis affects 5,5 million women. In Germany over 40 thousands of new cases are diagnosed every year.

In Czech republic the incidence of endometriosis is unkown. Pelvic pain and infertility are typical consequences of endometriosis.

Deep infiltrating disease can affect the rectosigmoid, urinary bladder and ureters. Therefore the multidisciplinary approach in diagnosis and treatment is necessary.

In the extragonadal localization endometriosis affects many different organs and tissues with heterogenous symptomatology. Extragonadal endometriosis represents a difficult medical differential diagnostic issue
