Monogenic forms of diabetes mellitus in children and adolescents

Abstract

Approximately 5% of diabetic patients has the diabetes caused by mutation of only a single gene - that is called monogenic diabetes. The most common form of monogenic diabetes is MODY (Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young) defined as diabetes mellitus with early age of manifestation and autosomal dominant inheritance.
