Abstract

Objective: To determine the outcomes of paediatric intensive care in the Czech Republic in 2007. Design: Retrospective, multi-centre study.

Setting: Intensive care units of tertiary paediatric centres. Materials and methods: We evaluated the 2007 PICU patient data - PICU length of stay, days on mechanical ventilation, invasive procedures (CVCs, arterial lines, ICP measurements and CRRT) and outcomes.

Results: Of the total number of 5287 patients admitted to the 15 tertiary paediatric intensive care units (PICU), 134 patients died (mortality rate 2.5%).
