Abstract

Aim of this retrospective study was to analyze the effect of month of measurement (seasonality) and month of birth on thermal nociceptive sensitivity in 68 healthy women and 112 patients with eating disorders. Results of Cosinor analysis showed a tendency to higher pain threshold in winter months.

We found no relationship between nociception and the month of birth, although both in patients and controls, the lowest pain thresholds were observed when measured during their month of birth. Month of birth can be considered a potential psychosocial factor influencing also nociception.
