Antimicrobial resistance remains one of the key problems in community and hospital settings within Europe. Increasing antibiotic resistance is related to increasing antibiotic use.
The choice of prescribed antibiotics is often influenced by various marketing mechanisms and patient's comfort rather than by medical criteria. Representatives of many European countries feel weight of the problem and support public educational compaigns to attain prudent antibiotic use for both medical professionals and the public.
Nevertheless, no great public educational campaign has been introduced so far. E-Bug seems to be the first such activity of this scope.
