Abstract

The overactive bladder as a most frequent cause of chronic disturbances and impairment of the quality of life is evaluated, including cost effectiveness of health-care systems in developed countries. The overview of initial, basic, and special urogynecologic diagnostics is presented.

Serious tumors of the bladder, neurologic and metabolic diseases with the similar symptoms, as the hyperactive bladder has, are mentioned in the differential diagnostics. The special attention is devoted to the problems of elderly female patients, where the necessity of special care and individual diagnostic approach are emphasized.
