The purpose of this study is to compare Czech national growth charts for children with the new WHO standards. Increasing prevalence of obesity demands more attention to the physical growth and nutrition of individuals in increasingly younger age groups.
An essential condition for correct assessment of child growth is the use of adequate reference data, especially in the youngest age categories. In 2006 WHO published new growth standards for children up to 5 years of age.
Breastfed children growth charts were taken as a norm. WHO now recommends implementation of these standards at national level and use them for early detection and prevention of obesity.
